What’s to Believe?

Recently, a favorite motif for home décor is one word:  “BELIEVE”

believe

It sounds so noble, but does it mean anything?  “Believe” is a transitive verb, requiring an object.  In other words, one has to believe something.  That might be the truth or a lie, a fact or fancy, a dream or reality.  What we believe makes all the difference.

Some may believe in themselves, in fate, in the goodness of mankind (!), etc.  As for me, my belief / trust is in the absolutely reliable God–the powerful, wise, and loving Creator of the universe and of me.  Is the object of your trust truly trustworthy?

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
     All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
