One of my favorite thoughts this time of year is the intrigue of the Incarnation. How God could and would take on flesh and blood and actually become one of us! What other religion has a God who would do that? But there’s more….
The reason Jesus took on a body was so he could give it for us. “This is my body broken for you.” And it was, there on the cross, 33 years later.
And the reason He took on blood was so he could pour it out to confirm God’s new covenant with us. (1 Corinthians 11:24-25.)
When Christ came into the world, he said to God,
“You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings.
But you have given me a body to offer….”
For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 10:5, 10)
